Challenge Day
Physical Activities Program
The project: Annually held on the last Wednesday of May, Challenge Day proposes that people interrupt their routine activities and practice any type of physical activity for 15 minutes in a row.
On this day, cities of the same size establish a healthy competition and try to mobilize the greater percentage of people, considering their official number of habitants.
Actually, the competition is just a way found to encourage people to participate. The real winners of this challenge are the citizens who exercise not only their bodies but also social integration, creativity, leadership and community spirit.
Basic principles of Challenge Day:
Accessibility – everybody has the chance to participate, without any restrictions of age, social condition or ability.
Involvement – the ideas come from the community and everybody participates and collaborates to develop the program. It is a challenge to creativity!
Fun – Challenge Day is not about sports indexes. Transforming physical activities into a moment of fun is its main purpose.
Diversity – Those who want to participate can choose between individual events or group programs. There is always an appropriate activity for each person’s interests and conditions.
Benefits to the community – a healthy community is formed by healthy people, among whom integration and respect stand out. Challenge Day stimulates the formation of group spirit.
Benefits to health – people who exercise fight stress, obesity, smoking and hypertension. They are also more cheerful and positive about life and work.
